In 2006, Gates founded Fresh Air Family, an organization dedicated to outdoor science education. Its most popular program is Gross Out Camp, which serves hundreds of children across the state of Alabama and in select cities in other states. It's annual fundraiser, the Wacky Tacky Light Bus Tour, annually celebrates the best of the worst of Birmingham's holiday lights with a large following of revelers.
